Royce da 5’9 is the stage name of Ryan Montgomery, an American rapper known for his collaborations with Eminem, Slaughterhouse, and DJ Premier, as well as for his solo work. ∙ Influenced by the music of Ras Kass, Redman, and Detroit’s Most Wanted, he began rapping when he was 18. ∙ His first big break came in 1999, when he was featured on “Bad Meets Evil,” a track from fellow Detroit rapper Eminem’s The Slim Shady LP. ∙ Royce was the featured rapper on Willa Ford’s 2001 hit “I Wanna Be Bad,” which reached No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100. ∙ In 2002, his first album, Rock City, climbed to No. 29 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop chart. ∙ Hell: The Sequel—his 2011 collaboration with Eminem as the duo Bad Meets Evil—hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and sold more than a million copies. ∙ The Allegory, from 2020, received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album.
