About Metro

Formed in 1974 by singer-songwriter Duncan Browne (b. 25 March 1947, England, d. 28 May 1993, England) and Peter Godwin (vocals), the band sounded very much ahead of their time and had more in common with the stylish 80s than the mid 70s, when UK pop had lost its edge and become tired and worn. Browne and Godwin wrote most of the material for their excellent debut album, which was released in 1976. The songs by this time had been crafted and needed little rearranging for the sessions. The duo was joined by Sean Lyons (guitar) and John Giblin (bass), and the result was an intelligent gentle rock album of thoughtful lyrics and sensitive arrangements. ‘Criminal World’ was a minor masterpiece, and was subsequently recorded by David Bowie. Browne departed to restart his solo career in 1978. Godwin, Lyons, John LaForge (drums), and Tony Adams (bass) released two disappointing albums under the Metro name before disbanding.
