Matteo Mela is among Italy's most active guitarists, especially visible as one-half of SoloDuo. He has a substantial recording catalog and is also an educator. While a student, he formed the Mela/Bandini Duo with guitarist Giampaolo Bandini. The duo won a variety of prizes at chamber music competitions between 1991 and 1998. In 2002, Mela and Lorenzo Micheli formed SoloDuo, which was still active as of the early 2020s. Mela made his recording debut in 2004 with Micheli, violinist Ivan Rabaglia, and cellist Enrico Bronzi, issuing an album of quartets by François de Fossa. Mela issued the album Souvenir d'Espagne on the latter in 2023.
