Marshall was originally the guitarist for UK glam rock band Hello. When the band finally collapsed, he turned to singing and walked straight into a successful solo career in Germany with his first single ‘Remember Me’. It was followed by another three chart contenders including the 1981 worldwide hit, ‘Only Crying’. While Germany continued to hold him dear, Marshall was not content to spend the rest of his career rewriting his greatest hit and has continued to move on musically, releasing records mainly in Europe, leaving the UK with only the occasional single.
