About Carlo Montanaro

Veteran conductor Carlo Montanaro specializes in mainstream Italian Romantic and post-Romantic opera repertory but also conducts French works. He has been active mostly as a freelancer, with activities ranging across several continents. Montanaro won a place in the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in 1991. His career as a conductor began in 2000 when he led a concert of instrumental music at the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. Montanaro's primary activity has been as an opera conductor. From 2011 to 2014, he was music director at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw. He returned to recordings in 2023, leading the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin in a performance of Puccini's Tosca.
