From reality show beginnings to international prominence, the meteoric rise of this quintet surges with each new release. After following up 2016’s hotly tipped debut Primera Cita with 2018’s eponymous album, CNCO return with youthful exuberance on their first EP. Previously released singles “De Cero” and “La Ley” showcased the dembow-infused pop and infectious harmonies present on the bulk of Que Quiénes Somos. Joined by like-minded Colombian singer Manuel Turizo on “Pegao”, they deliver another heartfelt dance-floor gem in line with their prior smash “Reggaetón Lento (Bailemos)”. Switching up the rhythm a bit, the Celia Cruz-sampling trap-salsa fusion “Ya Tú Sabes” grapples confidently with jealous lovers, while the a cappella closer “Tóxica” abandons the beat altogether to showcase CNCO’s dextrous vocal gifts. The Cruz sample in particular was important to the band, who relished the chance to highlight an influence. “Growing up in Cuba, [singer Erick Brian Colón] would listen to the greats like Marc Anthony and Celia Cruz,” they tell Apple Music. “The idea to add the sample of one of her biggest hits in our song was a no-brainer for us. We are so honoured to be able to sample her legacy in our track.”
