Apple Music’s end-of-year charts are based on plays between 1 November 2021 and 31 October 2022. The streets were calling in 2022, and South Africa’s highest-charting musicians answered with tracks that made even the smallest occasion feel like a turn-up. Amapiano heavyweights including Busta 929, Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa dominated the top of the charts. Those “we outside” vibes saw artists returning to form and toasting their growth, exemplified by K.O and his gritty street anthem, the Blxckie and Young Stunna collab “SETE”. The Afrobeats wave also managed to sweep SA, with Nigeria’s “African Giant” Burna Boy nabbing the No. 3 spot on our charts with his worldwide smash “Last Last”.
