Drawing on the stylings of pioneering Punjabi pop voices such as Jazzy B and Kuldeep Manak, as much as the nocturnal croon of the likes of Drake and Ne-Yo, Indian-Canadian singer Nealveer Chatha, aka The PropheC, has been making a name for himself in alternative R’n’B since the release of his debut album, Forever, in 2011. Classically trained in singing as a child, Chatha harnessed the crystalline power of his tenor on breakout track “Tukde”, from 2014’s Futureproof, as well as pitting it against verses from rapper Sidhu Moose Wala on 2019’s “Sohne Lagde”. His latest release, 2022’s “Waja”, meanwhile sees Chatha taking on a more intimate, balladic register, proving he has the power to captivate and crossover to unite the fields of his influence.
