The Band soaked up just about every kind of American roots music into their sound. You can hear the soulful buzz of Booker T.'s organ in the idiosyncratic keyboard work of Garth Hudson, or the burning blues of Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters in Robbie Robertson's dive-bombing guitar licks. The lonesome moan of Hank Williams comes through clearly in the anguished, heartfelt wails of bassist Rick Danko.
