Da Hammer: Trotro Vibes

Under the moniker Hammer of the Last Two (the duo he started alongside close friend Yaw Opare Anoff, aka Way Deep), Ghanaian producer Da Hammer (Edward Nana Poku Osei) became the godfather of Ghana’s hiplife evolution, growing the genre beyond its Akan language origins and expanding it to all Ghanaian dialects. For Trotro Vibes, Apple Music’s celebration of Ghanaian Independence Day, he crafts a sonic reflection of the growth of hip-hop and hiplife, featuring his own collabs with Sarkodie, Nana Asaase, Odeshi, Shatta Wale, Pure Akan, Kwasi Trigga and more, along with selections from Obrafour, Edem and Kwaw Kese. “This playlist represents the very embodiment of hope for the youth at a time music was the only alternative for school dropouts during the 2000s,” Da Hammer tells Apple Music. “These songs shaped the Ghanaian music landscape, hold great sentimental value and are very nostalgic to the everyday Ghanaian.”
