About Lemon & Herb

Lemon & Herb make deep house that’s informed by both the rhythms of their native South Africa and the moody synths of underground European dance music. Members Don Sithole and Skhumbuzo Radebe grew up in KwaZulu-Natal province, a hub for South African house, and met in 2005 while studying electrical and mechanical engineering in Durban. (They were initially joined by a third member, Thamsanqa Ntintili, who eventually left the fold.) They discovered a shared passion for electronic music, and by 2010, they were self-releasing their own productions. The same year, their music enjoyed an international boost when they won a remix contest held by UK deep-house legend Atjazz. Lemon & Herb speak of their music in terms of the rhythms of air travel—takeoff, cruising altitude and landing—and you can hear that metaphor in their sense of pacing. Their tracks are typically heady and immersive, layering subtle synths and carefully placed vocals over undulating drum grooves. It’s a hypnotic, emotive style evocative of all-night parties where the DJ’s in no hurry—and neither is the crowd.
