Konekt

Konekt

With Konekt, Ghanaian dancehall superstar Shatta Wale offers a glimpse into his modus operandi for 2024. Produced by long-time collaborator Bankulli, the album showcases the trademark fusion of dancehall, reggae and Afrobeats that’s turned Wale into a visionary and made his songs—like the Beyoncé and Major Lazer collab “ALREADY” or the chart-topping “Dancehall King”—irresistible. Reflecting on life’s challenges amid a relentless pursuit of success, Wale embraces the idea of rebirth across Konekt's eight tracks, firmly leaving the things that no longer serve him in the rearview. It’s an idea that crystallises on “Chasing Paper”, where Wale and Nigeria’s Basil take turns reading from their positive-vibes-only manifesto: “January to December/Any evil go back to sender.” Album opener “Real Life” is a reminder that the true cost of the soft life isn’t always evident from the outside. Jamaican reggae star Bounty Killer lends his distinctive voice to a search for a romantic equal who’ll have his back against the world (“Commando”). “Holiday” celebrates where he’s come from and where he’s headed—enjoying the life he’s earned.
