Sgudi Snyc - EP

This five-track collaborative EP by producers De Mthuda and Da Muziqal Chef is an exercise in baiting and switching. Despite its relatively short runtime, Sgudi Snyc covers an incredible amount of emotional latitude. The title track is a log-drum heavy amapiano number that pays homage to the popular ’80s sitcom S’Gudi S’Naysi, which featured late actor Joe Mafela. On “iThuba”, the duo teams up with vocalist Eemoh on a song about second chances. "Sinikiwe ithuba lokuba sishentje impilo zethu sonke," he croons over a percussive melody and understated xylophone taps. The project's midpoint, “Ntandane”, sees a shift in tone and mood, with the featured vocalist Mkeyz narrating a story about the loss of a parent. “Kude” is equally sombre and reflective, with Lannie Billion singing to a long-distance lover.
