Bad Boy Etiquette 102: Continuous Assessment

Ever since Ajebo Hustlers stepped into mainstream consciousness in 2020, the Port Harcourt duo—made up of singer Piego and rapper Knowledge—has constantly kept us on our toes. Whether offering a withering rebuke of jungle justice and governmental malfeasance on “Barawo” or tackling the demands of achieving material success on “Dreams”, Ajebo Hustlers collapse the barrier between the conscious, introspective and hedonistic with their highlife-influenced melodies and playful yet incisive rap bars that offer a glimpse into the dreams, worries and thrills of a generation of young Nigerians. Across 2021’s Kpos Lifestyle, Vol. 1 and 2022’s Bad Boy Etiquette 101, the duo has crafted heartfelt odes to the grind and heated dance-floor summons. On their new project, Bad Boy Etiquette 102: Continuous Assessment, Ajebo Hustlers attempt to balance providing entertainment and insight. “We’re trying to be entertaining but we still want to have a little depth,” Piego tells Apple Music. “We try to be comical in our lyrics and raps but we still want you to take back something. Listen and either be motivated or take any information that will benefit you. That’s why we said, ‘Bad Boy Etiquette’: entertaining you and still giving you game, teaching you how to move as a person.” Calling on a strong cast of collaborators, Bad Boy Etiquette 102: Continuous Assessment offers life lessons aplenty without sacrificing the quality of the listening experience. Zlatan and Blaqbonez are invited along for “Dreams II”, an update to the Bad Boy Etiquette 101 track. Together, the four urge listeners to pursue their dreams without fear over a balmy Niphkeys-produced instrumental. Breakout star of 2023 ODUMODUBLVCK joins for a dedication to a love interest on “Celine Dion”, and rising singer Raebel adds a new dimension to “Undecided”. In keeping with the tradition of Nigerian-Ghanaian collabs, rap legend Sarkodie adds extra gravitas to “Burn My Cable II”, while King Promise stops by for a rumination on heartache on “Sweet & Sour”. In true Ajebo Hustlers fashion, the standout arrives on the Jeriq-featuring “Last Week”, a humorous warning about the dangers of smoking that manages to be comical and still pass their message across effectively.
