Apple Music Home Session: Gyakie

Apple Music Home Session: Gyakie

For our Apple Music Home Session series—in which we ask artists to record stripped-back versions of their biggest hits, alongside a cover of one of their favourite songs—Ghanaian Afro-fusion singer-songwriter Gyakie revisits some of her most soulful hits, including “Far Away”, “For My Baby” and “Waka Waka”. She also pays a nod to both her heritage and her eclectic influences with a cover of Ghanaian reggae and dancehall star Saimini’s “Where my baby dey”. “These songs are special to me because of how soulful they are,” Gyakie tells Apple Music.“Lockdown taught me to work twice as much as usual. I also tapped into different things to broaden my creativity. I learnt to believe in my sound more and work expeditiously. I also got to learn new things that I have applied in my writing, recording and my craft as a whole.”
