About G.V. Prakash Kumar
Tamil composer G. V. Prakash Kumar is always looking for outlets for his fresh creative approach—whether it’s a hit soundtrack filled with Indian folk and rap or a showcase for his acting, playback singing or film production skills. • Artistic talent is in rich supply in Prakash Kumar’s family. His mother, A. R. Reihana, is a playback singer and composer, while his uncle is Oscar®-winning composer A. R. Rahman. • Prakash Kumar caught Kollywood’s eye by composing the soundtrack for Veyil (2006). He followed it with popular melodies for Kireedam (2007) and Madrasapattinam (2010). • Widespread acclaim arrived with the eclectic Aadukalam, which won him Filmfare Awards South and South Indian International Movie Award honours. Its romantic cut, “Yathe Yathe”, showcased his smooth vocal chops. • Determined to take on a new challenge as a film producer, the multifaceted creative launched GV Prakash Kumar Productions in 2013. • His breakthrough as a lead actor came with horror flick Darling, which garnered him a Filmfare Awards South trophy for Best Male Debut in 2016. • Telugu and Hindi ventures such as his film scores for Bollywood crime series Gangs of Wasseypur have seen Prakash Kumar’s appeal grow beyond the Tamil industry.
