The Velvet Underground Essentials

The Velvet Underground Essentials

Though mostly ignored during their brief run in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, The Velvet Underground would slowly become one of the most influential bands in the history of popular music. At the height of the hippie era, the Velvets took inspiration from beat poetry, free jazz, minimalism and classic rock 'n' roll. Their lyrics detailed the glamour and darkness of New York life, a downtown attitude shared by their patron/producer Andy Warhol. And with their heavy feedback, stripped-down rhythms and droning melodies, they pointed the way to punk, indie, noise rock, no wave and much more.
