The Tallis Scholars Essentials

The Tallis Scholars Essentials

When Peter Phillips founded The Tallis Scholars in Oxford in 1973, the classical world had all but forgotten a cappella early music. Through dogged persistence and sustained artistic excellence, his 10-voice ensemble not only played a key role in reviving interest in the gorgeous sound of Renaissance polyphony, they have established themselves as one of its most authoritative interpreters. While the group puts their own spin on staples like Allegri and Palestrina, Phillips' discoveries have from the outset imbued the project with a historical fervour, while an ever-expanding repertoire has grown to include the sacred music of Arvo Pärt.
