Hertfordshire’s The Hunna know exactly what to call a spade. They play fiery indie rock with passionate pop undertones, and lyrics that call out faithless friends and wayward exes with no quarter given. Forming as college mates before releasing their debut single, “Bonfires”, in 2015, they have the shared references and nicknames of a teen gang—even their name is taken from a band in-joke. But far from being obscure, they write with brutal clarity about everyday drama, and their tracks are peppered with formidable truth bombs. Any band that can write a skyscraping hip-hop rock song and call it “IGHTF” (“I get high to forget you”) are not to be trifled with.
