Sprung from a fruitful scene of young Melbourne jazz devotees around the turn of the millennium, The Cat Empire quickly grew to transcend the limits of any one genre–or era. They often sound as if they’re piloting some free-wheeling time machine, and have proven omnivorous across both their robust catalogue and their loose-limbed live show. Whether it’s the multicultural block-party vibe of “Hello” or the confident pop and EDM overtures of “Brighter Than Gold”, these versatile players are dynamic and dramatic at every turn.
