Sonny Stitt: Deep Cuts

Sonny Stitt: Deep Cuts

Some of saxophonist Sonny Stitt's finest moments occurred in the presence of fellow jazz greats. On the bluesy “Soul People”, organist Don Patterson lights a fire for some avuncular jousting with saxophonist Booker Ervin, while an encounter with Art Pepper on the bebop standard “Scrapple From the Apple” is decidedly more heated. “Blue ‘N' Boogie” suggests that some of Stitt's most inspired playing came in the presence of Gene Ammons.
