Son House Essentials

Son House Essentials

Son House started out as a preacher. At the age of 25 he began developing a vocal and guitar style that matched his preaching in its rhythm and intensity. Charley Patton was impressed with House and invited him to a session for Paramount Records in 1930. House's recordings sold poorly, but he remained a regional draw. Though he was an influence on early blues musicians like Robert Johnson, House dropped out of music by the early ‘40s. He was rediscovered during the ‘60s blues revival, and he began recording and performing again until he retired for good in the early ‘70s.
