SLUMBERJACK Essentials

Body-moving beats and dramatic drops are staples for Australian electronic duo Slumberjack, but so too are nuanced melodies and emotions. Since emerging in 2014, Fletcher Ehlers and Morgan Then have regularly tapped a dream cast of vocalists to heighten the latter, coaxing a silky R&B turn from Silverchair’s Daniel Johns on 2016’s “Open Fire” and arena-sized heartache from Vera Blue on 2017’s “Fracture”. Collabs with Alison Wonderland and What So Not have confirmed Slumberjack’s knack for dynamic shapeshifting, while 2020’s “Poison”, featuring fellow Perth singer Sydnee Carter, boasts an anthemic edge aimed squarely at the pop charts. By contrast, the duo turns more silky and intimate on 2022’s long-time-coming debut album, Dichotomy.
