Shooter Jennings Essentials

It should come as no surprise that the son of Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter inherited a knack for gritty Americana and rowdy Southern rock. There's outlaw country running through the songwriter's veins, and it's easy to hear in the natural delivery of his drawl over biting guitar lines and twinkling piano on “Gone to Carolina”. It's in the rhythmic, bluesy muscle and shivering slide work on “Southern Comfort” from his mid-'00s debut, too. The pedal steel-infused “Wild and Lonesome”—a wistful duet with Patti Griffin—shows his sensitive side.
