Rudimental: Summertime Sounds

“The playlist showcases some of our favourite records from summers gone by and a couple of new releases we feel are going to be played out throughout the festival season of 2023,” Rudimental’s Kesi Dryden tells Apple Music. The London crew of producers known for their drum ’n’ bass deliver an exclusive playlist made for dancing all summer long. Below, Kesi and Piers Aggett take us through a few of their song selections. Rudimental, Charlotte Plank & Vibe Chemistry, “Dancing Is Healing” Kesi: “We feel this is a great summer track because it epitomises what it means to be in the rave, to leave your troubles behind for a moment—whether you’re at a house party, in a club, at a festival, in a field or just connecting with the song in your headphones.” WEISS, “You’re Sunshine” Kesi: “Big piano, big kick drum, big vocal. ‘You’re Sunshine’ is a bit of a gem from several years back that went under the radar a little bit and is one of those records that just feels like it’s made for 25-degree heat and rooftops—you can’t overlook this one for a summer banger any longer.” Roy Davis Jr., “Gabriel” (feat. Peven Everett) Kesi: “An absolute classic on XL Records. There is so much we love about this record that spells class: the groove, the brass section, Peven’s vocal is timeless. It brings back a lot of memories, this one. You hear it at the start and end of a night—it’s a perfect track for sunsets, getting the party started or finishing it up in the early hours.” Sweet Female Attitude, “Flowers (Sunship Edit)” Kesi: “Right now, it feels like there is a little UKG resurgence happening, and you can’t help but associate big garage classics with summer. There are few tracks that do that better than Sunship’s edit of ‘Flowers’.” Nia Archives, “Baianá” Piers: “We love Nia. She is one of the leaders of the new generation of D’n’B artists coming through. We love her use of the sample on this record, too, and the music video that accompanied it. The combination of the D’n’B breaks behind the sample all sound very right on a hot day.” MK & Dom Dolla, “Rhyme Dust (Dimension Remix)” Piers: “[This track] was only released a couple of weeks ago and got its debut at Printworks’ closing. We absolutely love the original. The use of the Q-Tip sample and the bassline make this one festival-ready, and we’ve already been hearing it out a lot—but as you know, we like to play a bit of D’n’B, and Dimension has given it that extra bit on his remix.” Fred again.., “Delilah (pull me out of this)” Piers: “Fred again.. just keeps delivering us these big dance records, euphoric and emotive at the same time. They feel like they’re made to soundtrack the summer and memories made across them. [We] could have picked any one of the tracks he’s put out on the last album, to be honest.”
