Red Essentials

Red’s brand of Christian rock evokes nothing less than an end-time battle between angels and demons. Coming together in the early 2000s, an era when post-grunge and alt-metal were in full-on beast mode, the Nashville band combined the soul-baring torment of the former with the mosh-pit heaviness of the latter. The fusion proved infectious, as their debut, 2006’s End of Silence, roped in both people of faith and secular headbangers seeking out thunderous riffs. In time, Red have grown increasingly ambitious, augmenting their hulking jams with strings and dark electronics, in the process giving subsequent albums a sweeping, cinematic feel.
