Hit ’00s Mexican telenovela Rebelde gave rise to RBD, the Latin pop supernova featuring six of its teen stars. Their debut album Rebelde—released in 2004 soon after the show’s launch—bristled with heartstring-tugging, hands-in-the-air millennial pop, laying the groundwork for the sextet’s global domination. RBD’s fizzy rock- and dance-laced refrains, many also recorded in Portuguese and English, stormed the charts until their breakup in 2009. Fast forward to 2020 and four of the band’s members announced a long-awaited virtual reunion, preceded by the emotional “Siempre He Estado Aquí”.
