Percussion

In classical music terms, anything that’s hit with another thing is considered percussion, be it tuned (xylophone, vibraphone, marimba, tubular bells) or untuned (bass drum, cymbals, tambourine, triangle). Over time, the orchestra’s percussion section has grown to include all kinds of weird and wonderful paraphernalia—from wind machines and waterphones to smashing dinner plates and tearing paper.
