Slow-burning, heartfelt and grandly spacious, London Grammar's sound has an ethereal quality that evades easy categorisation. “Big Picture” conjures a rock showstopper, borne by an urgent, cinematic guitar riff The Edge would be proud of. Disclosure collaboration “Help Me Lose My Mind” arrives as a squelchily percussive, tear-streaked banger. And “Strong”—which won an Ivor Novello Award in 2013—wreaths Hannah Reid's powerful, plangent delivery in icy, electro atmospherics. They may be hard to pin down, but this trio supply new wave torch songs with drama, soul and a big, beating heart.
