Parsing the differences between strains of drum ‘n' bass can require keen ears and an encyclopedic knowledge of breakbeats, but liquid funk, Logistics' specialty, speaks for itself: it's both driving and soulful, with a molten low end and a relentless melodic focus. Since the early ‘00s, the Cambridge producer (Matt Gresham, younger brother of Nu:Tone's Dan Gresham) has pushed the enveloping sound forward by foregrounding sub-bass pressure, intricately layered synths and wistful vocals. His productions can test the world's biggest club systems, but his moods are evocative of more intimate contexts—the best of both worlds.
