Londoner Lianne La Havas nailed her uniquely British neo-soul with 2012 debut album Is Your Love Big Enough?, bringing new energy to the genre and expanding its boundaries. The single “Lost & Found” revealed a tender, fragile voice, in contrast to “Forget”, with its crashing percussion and fuzzy guitar. La Havas, who counted Prince among her earliest fans, added the influence of reggae and doo-wop for second album Blood, which includes the sky-scaping “Unstoppable” and the irrresistible pop vocals of “What You Don’t Do.” After four years away she returned in 2020 singing that she’s "born again", and inspired by classic Stax funk, on “Bittersweet”.
