“I’m a very calm person naturally, so music helps me get into the right frame of mind before the game starts,” says Ghana’s national team captain Jordan Ayew. “It gets me hyped. I’m always listening to music. It’s surprising, but I sometimes catch myself listening to music without even realising!” Ayew, who is the Black Stars squad’s most capped player, made his international debut in 2010 and has played domestic football in France, England and Wales. His genre of choice? “I listen to a lot of Afrobeats,” he says. “I grew up on azonto, so falling in love with Afrobeats is just the natural progression.” His Warm-Up playlist contains tracks from fellow Ghanaian stars like Black Sherif, KiDi and KOJO BLAK, but also some of Nigeria’s finest. “Anything Wizkid and Rema, you’ll find me there,” says Ayew. “I love King Promise too. I think he’s one of Ghana’s biggest stars putting on for the country at the moment.”
