Jason Chan: Must-Hears for the New Year

In 2005, after spending nearly two decades in Canada, Cantopop artist Jason Chan returned to Hong Kong, where he had lived until he was seven. He’s spent the years since then crafting warm-hearted, romantic ballads such as “Stubborn”, which not only placed him in the spotlight but earned him plenty of international acclaim. The holiday has always been a busy time for Jason’s family, especially when they ran a Chinese food business in the Toronto area. “Whenever Chinese New Year rolled around, we’d launch a special series of festive foods just for the occasion,” he tells Apple Music. “I always helped my family with preparations, so we were often all working during Chinese New Year. That said, I was happy because I always got paid! That money was better than what you’d get in any red envelope.” To capture the joy and happiness of the period, Jason assembled a playlist of upbeat, feel-good songs to create a lively and festive atmosphere. The message he shares along with his song selections: “Gong xi fa cai—I wish you fortune and wealth! Blessings all around for you, me and everyone else!”
