Jamelia Essentials

A pop star of the aughts, Jamelia parsed every aspect of love: from perfect crush to deteriorating partnership, and everything in between. In 2000, the Birmingham singer released her breakthrough, the string-heavy, operatic “Money”, featuring dancehall legend Beenie Man, about the irrelevance of finances to a relationship. Her 2003 album Thank You was home to the titular pop&B single that encouraged growth after a necessary breakup, as well as “Superstar”, a sunny song that explored the innocence of flirting. Though she stepped away from music in the mid-2000s, her songs continue to speak to anyone who has ever fallen in—or out of—love.
