Guy Sebastian's Summer of Soul

Guy Sebastian's Summer of Soul

There’s something about soul and R&B that adds so much to the glimmer of a hot summer’s day. Guy Sebastian might be best known for his huge pop ballads, but soul was his first love—so he’s selected a few classics and newer songs to soundtrack the warm days. “I’ve picked some of my favourite soulful tunes which will definitely get you in the mood for summer,” he tells Apple Music. “Listen on a road trip, or while chilling by the pool with your crew. Hope you enjoy!” Read on for more about his top five tracks. Taka Perry, “Only U” (feat. Gia Vorne) “This is a local one. I don’t know what it is about this song, but the incredible vocals that Georgia [aka Gia Vorne] brings mixed with really fresh soulful production from Taka. This song just makes me want to have a rum and dry by the pool!” Vulfpeck, “Back Pocket” “It doesn’t matter what I’m going through, if I put on ‘Back Pocket’, the beat and the falsetto vocals can swing my mood within seconds.” Labrinth, “Let It Be” “The production on this track is ridiculous. So warm and soulful, and the video is something that definitely needs to be watched.” Tom Misch, “Lost in Paris” “Tom Misch is a genius on guitar. He’s just an incredibly soulful player who knows how to write a super catchy melody. And his NPR Tiny Desk is one to watch for sure.” Jacob Collier, “Time Alone With You” (feat. Daniel Caesar) “I don’t even know where to start when I talk about this guy. He’s the Einstein of our music generation. He hears things that should not be heard by the human ear. I’ve been following him online since he was a kid. He does the most freakishly musical things and plays every instrument. Check him this summer and don’t judge the book by its cover. This kid has as much soul and funk as Parliament and D’Angelo but can also sit down with Herbie Hancock and talk voicings. He’s the real deal.”
