Their name may suggest gangling, youthful exuberance but Foals have come to be defined by their willingness to mature, experiment and open up their sound to new possibilities. Math rock characterised the skittering percussion and dense cross-rhythms of 2008 debut Antidotes before 2013's “My Number” threw a fizzing pop firework into their discography. Since then the Oxford group has ranged between these stylistic poles. “What Went Down” twists heavy guitars into an unusual shape and “Exits” possesses the kind of jerking groove and light melodic touch that has seen them endure and evolve as many late-2000s peers have fallen away.
