Eddie Harris Essentials

Eddie Harris Essentials

Chicago-born saxophonist Eddie Harris was an experimenter and instrument developer well ahead of his time. He widened sonic possibilities by outfitting the tenor sax with trombone, clarinet and bassoon parts. He put reed mouthpieces onto brass instruments. He worked with electric pickups and wind synthesisers, creating a harmoniser called the Eddie Harris Attachment. His work with pianist Les McCann yielded 1969's Swiss Movement and the landmark single “Compared to What”. “Freedom Jazz Dance” also became a standard, and was performed by the Miles Davis Quintet and many others.
