Dum Dum Girls Essentials

Dee Dee Penny (aka Kristin Gundred) started Dum Dum Girls as a solo DIY project in 2008, at the crest of a new interest in lo-fi guitar pop. An EP on the influential Brooklyn indie Captured Tracks attracted the attention of Sub Pop Records, who released I Will Be in 2010. The album was produced by Richard Gottehrer, whose work on the '60s garage rock scene and as the producer of Blondie and The Go-Go's in the '70s and '80s neatly defined the group's primary influences. A darker, shoegaze-influenced sound predominated on Dum Dum Girls' third album, 2014's Too True.
