L.A. may be known for gangsta rap, but the city also has a rich history of underground hip-hop. Dilated Peoples—comprised of Evidence, Rakaa Iriscience and DJ Babu—emerged as standouts of the West Coast subterranean scene in the aughts. They released a number of well-received albums beginning in the '00's, and flirted with mainstream exposure with the Alchemist-produced “Worst Comes to Worst” and “This Way” featuring Kanye West.
