Deerhunter Essentials

Deerhunter write indie rock that's meant to challenge. Surviving the 2004 death of member Justin Bosworth, the band adopted a shoegaze sound on 2007's Cryptograms, a confounding, fractured gem that blended ambient soundscapes with pop. That experimentation paid off on 2008's Microcastle, a daring noise-pop classic that dialled down the effects and channelled everything from garage rock to post-punk. Frontman Bradford Cox has continued leading Deerhunter into unexpected territories, with 2013's Monomania arguably their most straightforward statement yet.
