Courtney Barnett: Influences

Courtney Barnett: Influences

Courtney Barnett first fell in love with music while listening to the great female jazz singers in her parents' record collection, and developed a childhood fascination for guitar music through mixtapes given to her by a neighbour. Hand-picked by Barnett herself, this playlist explores the rich spread of music that has informed her songs. It takes in The Breeders' galvanising energy, The Lemonheads' sunny, shambling melodies and Wilco's experimental impulses. Patti Smith's emotional eloquence and Leonard Cohen's vivid storytelling are equally important. All brought together, they form the foundations for one of Australia's most absorbing singer/songwriters.
