Bonobo's soulful downtempo draws from many sources, not all of them obvious. It's easy to detect echoes of DJ Shadow's instrumental hip-hop and Aphex Twin's iridescent tone colours in his richly textured productions, but he's just as inspired by vintage sounds like Donovan's folk-infused pop, Alice Coltrane's spiritual jazz and Brazilian guitarist Baden Powell's slinky, acoustic bossa nova.
