Bicep Essentials

Belfast dance duo Bicep began their career as eager enthusiasts—most notably through a blog celebrating excavated house rarities—and a purist’s appreciation of the form runs through their output. In essence, this means fealty to the fundamentals: the soulful euphoria, polyphonic keys and limber, snare-hiss groove that was first set down by Chicago and Italo originators and finds its echo in the building high of “Metro”. But childhood friends Andrew Ferguson and Matthew McBriar’s crate-digging approach frequently turns up fresh sonic treasure. “Atlas” wobbles and blips atop a swirling, spiritual chant and “Glue” is a non-negotiable invitation to the dance floor: an exultant dream of rattling pirate radio drums and idle, ghostly vocal.
