Beth Orton Essentials

Beth Orton wasn't always sure she'd end up being a musician, but she became a pioneer when she did. A folk singer with a love for electronic beats, Orton meshed the two into a hybrid sound that paved the way for trip-hop. After working with William Orbit on a Japan-only LP, Orton broke out on 1996's Trailer Park, an acclaimed album that saw her focus shift to the pop side of songwriting. While the UK songstress has become more of a traditional folk singer in the 21st century, her electronic roots are still apparent, with albums like 2012's Sugaring Season eschewing easy labels.
