“Pat and I, it feels like we're in a great place,” Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys tells Apple Music as he reflects on his career with bandmate Patrick Carney. “I can't believe that I'm able to do what I do every day—come into the studio and pick and choose what I do and not have to be sucking up to anybody or thinking about budgets. I can invest on what needs to be invested in a project to make it right.” In his interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Auerbach talks about growing up in a musical family, celebrating 20 years since the band started and venturing into Mississippi hill country blues on their 10th album Delta Kream. Auerbach also shared an exclusive playlist highlighting songs that inspired the album, including R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Rosa Lee Hill and Delta blues trio Jelly Roll Kings—represented here with the track “I’m a Big Boy Now”. “That was one of the very first Fat Possum records that I got,” he says. “Just an amazingly sloppy band that made an awesome record in a little juke joint.”
