Antidote

London Grammar are back—and headlining Antidote this week with “House”, the first single from their just-announced fourth album, The Greatest Love. “The song was written around the initial concept of home and belonging to a particular place,” the band’s keyboardist and percussionist Dot Major tells Apple Music. “Lyrically, this meant focusing on what that meant to Hannah [Reid, singer/multi-instrumentalist] since emerging from our lockdown experiences—both externally and introspectively. Musically, this meant referencing tracks and sonic elements from our youth.” Cue a blend of acoustic guitars, drum ’n’ bass breakbeats and soft vocals, with Reid in an assertive mode: “This is my place, my house, my rules,” she sings. For the band, “House” felt like the perfect track to introduce their next chapter, with The Greatest Love expected in September. “This song was one of the first fully formed pieces of music that emerged in the writing process,” says guitarist Dan Rothman. “It was born in a temporary studio space, that was simple in setup. So the tune came to life very quickly. But then took a long time to complete sonically. The fact that it stayed in our consciousness suggests how important the song was to this album process, and ultimately, why we chose it to introduce the next phase of London Grammar.” Elsewhere, you can listen to the latest must-hear tracks from bby and Kasabian. Like all the artists featured, Antidote is always evolving—so keep checking back, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
