With guitar-driven anthems like “Monsoon Rock” and “Freaks To The Front”, Amyl and The Sniffers could have been spawned in any regional pub-rock scene across Australia. Formed in 2016 by a core of three Melburnian housemates, the band flex an energetic combination of joy, rage and cheek across 2019’s self-titled debut album, which brought them to international attention, and even more so on 2021’s Comfort To Me. Led by hard-charging frontwoman Amy Taylor, these songs about dealing with bouncers (“Security”), having no money (“Gacked On Anger”) and slagging off exes’ new girlfriends (“Some Mutts (Can’t Be Muzzled)”) make for danceable assault and battery—with a sense of fun.
