Alfie Templeman’s sincere lyrical musings and ever-evolving pop palette provide a soundtrack for self-discovery. Born in 2003 in Carlton, the singer-songwriter—also a self-taught multi-instrumentalist and producer—released his debut EP, 2018’s Like an Animal, at age 15. His syrupy indie-R&B sound expanded with his 2021 mini-album, Forever Isn’t Long Enough, which paired dance-funk swagger with themes of coming-of-age and heartbreak. Years of exploration—sonic and introspective—culminated in Templeman’s first proper LP, 2022’s Mellow Moon, a vibrant pop vessel detailing his struggle with depression, his anxiety over returning to touring and an identity crisis coming out of lockdown. It was a major turning point for the bolder, self-realised artist we hear now.
