Xtet

About Xtet

A Los Angeles-based contemporary ensemble that specializes in not specializing, Xtet's repertoire and lineup are essentially fluid. The group has, as of 1998, 11 core members, but the actual lineup for any given concert may be larger or smaller. Their concerts range from the classical to compositions based around jazz idioms. Xtet was formed in 1986 following discussions between bassoonist John Steinmetz and clarinetist David Ocker (who has since left the ensemble), with their first concert featuring a performance of Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire. Since that time, Xtet have performed an impressive variety of material, including many pieces commissioned specifically for Xtet. To date, Xtet has appeared on only one recording, Gerald McBoing Boing & Other Stories. ~ Steven McDonald
