About WIVES
Queens-based indie rock group WIVES offset their scuzzy mix of proto-punk, grunge, and garage rock influences with anthemic choruses. Their first full-length, So Removed, saw release in 2019. Already established members of New York's D.I.Y. scene, friends Jay Beach (vocals/guitar), Andrew Bailey (guitar), Alex Crawford (bass), and Adam Sachs (drums) first played together when presented with some extra studio time booked for another project. Calling themselves WIVES, they started playing house shows and booking their own tours. Their first recording, the three-track EP A Flock of Nuns Circle a Shark Carcass, appeared in 2016. In the meantime, Bailey was recording and touring as a member of shoegaze successors DIIV. WIVES signed to City Slang in 2019 and issued "Waving Past Nirvana," referencing their efforts to escape the comparison to two other bands with the same name. The song was included on their debut album, So Removed, which arrived later the same year. ~ Marcy Donelson & Liam Martin
